Al Murison won the Elite race at the Mountbatten Circuit Races in Portsmouth on March 17

Al Murison (Equip CMI) was in a select group of five riders that got a lap on the bunch and then won the sprint just ahead of Andy Bryson (Peter Hansford RT). The Devonian rider was instrumental in the early stages of the race trying several times to get away and then after ten minutes of racing along with Andy, Harrison Fielding (Poole Wheelers) Toby Neave (VC St Raphael) and Ian Legg (Primera Sport) these five set about outing a full lap into the remainder of the bunch.

There was another rider, Henry Newbury (Fareham Wheelers) in the initial attack but he slipped back and was collected by the bunch but did continue to work on the front to try and pull the race back.

On a showery cold day down on the south coast several riders found the conditions too bad and packed and those brave souls that did manage to finish were all suffering in the HQ at the finish, shivering and trying to locate fingers they had lost in the conditions. Some reported difficulties changing gear or braking.
Apart from the initial attacks in the early stages of the race it wasn’t until the five riders got away that we saw a counter attack, but by that time it was too late.

In the 3rd cat race Tristan Grigalis (SURC) singled handily drove the front of the race coming onto the front at every occasion he could to ensure the group stayed away from the bunch. Along with Tristan were Ashley Morris (Fareham Wheelers), Howard Milner (Hampshire RC), Connor Innes (Southdown Bikes), and Andrew Redding (i-Team). Joe Donahue (Fareham Wheelers) worked very hard to close the gap between the leaders and the bunch and he used all his time trialling experience to get across the gap. Once the six were together they all worked hard and stayed away.

The women’s race was a slowly run race with not one of them wanting to take the running and this came down to a sprint for the line. Hannah Manley (VC St Raphael) piped team mate Laura Clode on the line with Clare Gillett (Elite Cycling) third
The fourth cat race also came down to a sprint for the line.
