Matt Bottrill (drag2zero) wins the ‘MG Decor Team Carbon Bike Solutions’ Open 10 mile time trial on the A10/17
![]() |
Saturday afternoon, the cold weather gave way to warmer conditions and bright blue skys for the Mg Decor Open 10. The weather conditions where ideal for time trialing and some of the United Kingdom’s finest riders gathered in the small town of Griffydam to take part in the Mg Decor/Team carbon bikes open 10 mile time trial.
The circuit is renowned in the Leicestershire area for being the hardest and most technical circuit with rolling roads, small villages, and hard road surface. Out on the circuit, the first rider to nearly break the 22 minute barrier was Brett Harwood of Terry Wright Cycles, who is in great form this season and seems to be going from strength to strength.
Next came Matt Sinclair (Lutterworth Cycle Centre) who has a personal best time of 18.47 and he did not dissappoint and dipped under 22 minutes for a time of 21.51, to lead the way and show how hard the circuit is!
With the majority of the riders home, there was a good atmosphere building! At 2.35pm, Matt Bottrill (www.drag2zero.com) took his place in the starting area with the event being sponsored by his own long time sponsor, Martin Garner of www.mgdecor.co.uk.

Bottrill came to the race on a mission to beat his own course record of 20.37. He was soon into his stride and the numbers from the power meter were looking good and using all his ability to hold his perfected position set up at the drag2zero windtunnel, Bottrill was flying!
Into the headwind sections, the Giant Trinity Sl time trial machine, along with the Enve wheels was loving the crosswind section’s on the course. With the final section climb of Diseworth hill, a shout from one of the spectators indicated, a 1.40 advantage. Stomping on the pedals pushing the 56 O-Symetric chainring, the clocked was stopped in a time of 20.11. A new course record!!
Asked about his peformance Bottrill replied “I loved every minute of that ride, days like this are really special. I train around this circuit all the time and have always dreamed of doing a 30 mph ride. I never expected the time gaps to be as large, but I’ve been working really hard and have had a lot of help from Simon Smart-smartaerotechnology.com this winter and my coach Bob Tobin cyclepowermeters.com is always looking at ways to improve me as a rider. I just want to say thanks to everybody out there today the was shouting me on, along the course,I loved every minute of it!
