Ixworth is located 3 miles North of Bury St Edmunds on the A143. The course on a closed road circuit makes for fast exciting close racing offering spectators the opportunity to see close up many of the UK’s finest riders battle out for top honours.
These races aimed at riders of all ages and abilities, are now established as East Anglia’s premier day of circuit races. Held on Bank Holiday Monday May 6th, it has consistently produced fast exciting racing , close finishes with often the need for the photo to decide the places.
The Tarmac course, which has recently been resurfaced is an 800 meter approx circuit centred in the village of Ixworth, is quite demanding and a good test of riders’ abilities.
Event organiser Adrian Grimwood explained that with the event coming just before the start of the televised Tour Series of races around the UK, the top teams are using the Ixworth meeting to get their riders up to speed for the fast and furious pace they will encounter. The fact that top teams are looking to come to Ixworth is helping to lift our event profile and giving the Youngsters and public in Suffolk an opportunity to see and meet the best riders in the country.
The new two event format that Ixworth features is a short sharp 20 min category race followed later by an Iinvitational race .This seems to be very much liked by the Clubman and pro riders alike
Already signed up are the Pro Outfit of Team Raleigh including former national champion Graham Briggs ,Russell Hampton ,Tom Scully and Tom Moses. The Sigma Sport team are also keen to ride and are sending Jake Hales, Andrew Griffiths ;along with Olympic medallist Ross Edgar, making a return to the event he rode as a juvenile. Now the Team UK Youth featuring Many of their top riders are also set to take to the Ixworth start line for the first time .
