The multi-talented organiser Willy Thompson report…

This weeks race was from Belsay to Whalton, left up bank to Bolam returning to Belasy. The TLI decided to hold on it his course as it is quite popular with the riders.

We had three groups tonight set off at 3 minute intervals. The second group quickly caught up to the first but it wasn’t until the last lap of three before the scratchmen caught the leaders, in fact with only four miles to go.

Then, there was some jumping around with the main animators being Steve Kenny (Steels Cycles), Paul Watson (GS Metro), Phil Jack and Mike Aspey (Northumbrian Police) no doubt having fed on truncheon meat sandwiches, Andy Beatyie (Infinity Cycles), with Ally Young, a stranger from Newcastle Uni at the finish showing a clean pair of heels to the rest and easily winning from a very fast finishing Paul Watson (GS Metro).

Is it worth mentioning that Paul’s father, himself an ex rider, who was marshalling at one of the corners, tripped on a large roadside stone and had to be taken to hospial to have stitches to his nose. Dave, get well soon and thanks for helping out.
