Report by Julie Rodman

It was good to see a fantastic turn out of 65 riders taking to the start line last night for the 4th of the successful Chevin cycles road league. The weather threatened to rain but despite being overcast it remained dry to the end.

A lot of the riders still have the regional championships in their legs, but despite this the pace was high for the duration of the race. The front groups had a split of three minutes on the scratch group and made the most of their handicap. By the 2nd lap of four laps, the gap had come down to 45 seconds. However the rear bunch didn’t quite do enough to bridge the gap on the final lap and it was down to 24 seconds.

Sensing that the main field might stay away, they all worked well together on the final lap which culminated in a good team performance by Dirtwheels, as they set up the win for Rob Watson in a closely contested sprint with Joseph Richards Wheelbase taking second place. The next event is to held at Saxton course not Appleton Roebuck as listed in the events list due to headquarters issues.
