Another Solihull CC promotion at the increasingly popular Tudor Grange Circuit in Solihull where there were two separate races for women and men.

The women’s event was well supported and was again run on a handicap basis which worked well now that the organisers are getting to know the different strengths and levels of experience of the riders.
It meant that everyone, regardless of category or ability, was able to enjoy a tough race with this concept having been used successfuly for many, many years in Australia where the format turns out tough racers who have to race from the gun with no “sitting in”.
Solihull’s rising star Sophie Faulkner recorded another win in a close sprint finish from the leading group of riders. There was a lot of enthusiasm from the participants for the format and the “No Frills” concept, keeping entry fees low, and because of the success of the women’s only events Guy Elliott and the Solihull CC team will be organising more of these in the future. It was also good to see Heather Bamforth, who does so much for women’s cycling in the north west, earn her second category licence.
