It was a lovely evening for the last race in the series held by Chevin Cycles on the new circuit of Kirby Hill near Boroughbridge.

Julie Rodman report

Sixty five riders took to the start line for the final 50km event and it wasn’t long before the groups were together enjoying the wonderful country lanes around Newby Hall and surrounding areas.

With key riders Adam Duggleby (Wheelbase), Jamie Sharp (Team Hope), Dave Shackleton (Wilson Wheels) in the scratch group, they were on a mission to gain back the time advantages of the handicap riders and go for the win, Dave wanting to hold on to his lead in the series and take the win over all.

Despite a few moves off the front of Nathan Wilson (Wilson Wheels) it was all brought back together on the final lap and culminated in a bunch sprint finish. Jamie Sharp took the win from Dave Shackleton with Rob Smail Metaltek Knights of Old taking the third place sprint.

It was a challenging course but everyone got around safely and finished the evening off in style with a buffet at the Fox and Hounds public house in Langthorpe. Its been a very well attended series with averages of 60-70 riders taking to the line each Tuesday night for a good work out.

The overall series winner was Dave Shackleton (Wilson Wheels). A lot of clubs have supported Chevin Cycles in this promotion and its certainly been a great start to the road racing calender in North Yorkshire. Hats off the Sonja Harper in her first role as organiser and last night a driver, in at the deep end but a job indeed very well done.
