The best turn out was saved for the last event at York Sport last night with a turn out of 35 cyclists riding the two events of the evening.

Julie Rodman report (thnx!)
A lovely midsummers evening to witness some fast cycling
The first event up was the ladies 40 Minute event which had some new faces to the circuit, with Sam Burman riding her First Ladies event in her new club colours of We Love Mountains. Also new to the track was Nicky Moore of Active CP Cycles. Due to the end of the university season, we were without the four University of York ladies this week.
The ladies were handicapped into two groups with once again Iona Sewell (GB cycles), showing her strength by breaking up the chasing group to catch the main bunch and carry on through to solo to another win on the course. The remaining five riders worked well together to set up a nice bunch sprint, keenly contested which was won by Victoria Hood followed by her new team mate Sam Burman.
It was fantastic to see 29 men take to the start line and the pace was set as fast once the whistle blew and the riders were strung out all over the back straight. With the abundance of AlbaRosa cyclists taking part as well as the strength of Dirtwheels RT riders, the 1.2km circuit was being covered in 1.25mins. No one was able to break away and a few found it hard to keep the pace for 50 minutes. Jamie Grey took a spill later on in the race at the narrowest part of the track, luckily only abrasions and nothing broken, we wish him a quick recovery.
Then as the lap board showed 10 to go, attackers came from Alex Fold (Dirtwheels), Alex Dalton (Squadra RT) and Jamie Tweddell (AlbaRosa RT) and it was good to see them enjoying the new circuit. Local riders Jacob Brown (Clifton CC) was always up there along with Craig Jarrett (Harrogate Nova) and Marcus Nainby (Scunthorpe Poly CC).
These were chased down and it would come down to bunch sprint of twenty riders. It was all strung out down the back straight as the pace was lifted and into the right hand bend one rider emerged slightly in front and the power house Peter Baracevicus Dirtwheels took the win from up and coming junior Alex Dalton Squadra RT, followed by Joe Williamson AlbaRosa RT and Alex Fold Dirtwheels.
As the sunset on the final test event, the riders were happily going home awaiting the races for points to start next week.
Great event again put on by Andrew Johnston Clifton CC, who is encouraging all abilities to come and use the circuit. The go ride youths were enjoying the circuit for an hour prior to the seniors, so a lot stayed on to watch the ladies racing.
Roll on next week……….can’t wait.
