NMRRL: STAINTON Race 9 – 27.2 miles 20th JUNE 2013

In the Group A race, a breakaway of 5 riders escaped on the 2nd lap. By the end of the 3rd lap, the group comprising of James Baillie (Langsett Cycles RT), Gabriel Cullaigh (RST Racing Team), Marc Etches (Sheffrec CC), Marc McLean (Out Of The Saddle CC) & Andrew Nichols (Neon Velo) had opened up a 37 second lead on the bunch. The leading group worked well together maintaining their advantage over the remaining laps with the bunch clearly reducing in numbers as the rain became heavier.

At the finish, Cullaigh just held off Baillie by the tightest of margins to take the win with Nichols taking 3rd place ahead of Etches in 4th and McLean in 5th. Lee Allen (Out Of The Saddle CC) and Dan Storey (RST Racing Team) attacked the bunch to finish in 6th & 7th places respectively, nearly a minute down.

At the halfway point of the NMRRL, Group A looks to be heading for the closest finish in years. Levi Moody (RST Racing Team) still leads the Overall Standings with Cullaigh moving into 2nd place just 2 points behind with Dan Lowthorpe (Langsett Cycles RT) just 1 point further back with others closing in.

The Group C race had little in the way of breakaways with the weather seemingly playing a part in that, so a bunch sprint was inevitable. Liam O’Toole (Sheffrec CC) was the clear winner for his 3rd victory of the year, with Thomas Howard (BBM Revolution CC) in 2nd place ahead of Pete Crawforth (The Biketree/pedalpursuits.com) & Ryan Firth (BBM Revolution CC) in 3rd & 4th places. O’Toole is now the clear leader of the Group C Overall Standings, 10 points ahead of Howard with Firth a further 5 points behind..
