In sharp contrast to the wet weather that forced the cancellation of the previous week’s racing, conditions could not have been any better for the 256 competitors who turned out at sun-drenched National Sports Centre last Tuesday night for round 12 of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man’s Youth League.

The novices got the proceedings underway, with Caitlyn Hampson taking the honours ahead of the fast finishing Tiana Kelly who overtook Chloe Hampson on the finishing straight to secure the runners-up spot. Megan Callin was a solid fourth and Ryan Batty ousted Aaron Kinvig in the tussle for fifth. Molly Hinds led William Lomas home for seventh and Leon Murphy was too quick for Zoe Bridson, Lily-Ann Scott and Talia Newman-Jackson in the rush for ninth.

In the born 2008 & later class Myles Le Geyt got the verdict in a very close finish with T.J.Teare. Chaser Ollie Eyres was a safe third and Lennon Moore edged out Fearne Bregazzi and Eddy Dillon in the dash for fourth. George Kinnish was a lonely seventh and Alec Sorby won the bunch gallop for eighth. Callum Christian and Charlotte Geldart rounded off the top ten.

Cian Howard had to fight off a strong challenge from Orry Lund before sealing the victory in the born 2007 category. Archie Dunn led Dexter Russell and Jemma Quayle home to secure the final place on the podium, with Florence Griffin coming from behind to snatch sixth from Rio Kelly, Ben Davies and Zack Bellhouse. Charlie Scarffe outsprinted Greg Kelly to complete the top ten leader board.

In another close battle Ivan Sorby held off Cian Jackson in the final sprint to bag maximum points in the born 2006 event. Drystan Sewell pipped Owen Collins for third and Harry Corkish recovered from a last lap crash to salvage fifth. Corey Peters and Harry Eyres came in separately to claim sixth and seventh, while Samuel Devereau headed the main chasing group in for eighth. Jenson Artus took ninth and relative newcomer Nicola Quaye was the first girl in a very good tenth spot.

Fresh from his win in the supporting race in the British Youth Championships, Niall Colquitt rode clear of a ten-strong breakaway group to score a fine solo win in the born 2005 race. Harry Kneen got the better of Oliver Sykes, Oliver Corkish and Mairi Harrison in the surge for second, with Oscar Lace fending off Chloe Dillon and Tyler Annis in the scrap for sixth.

Zac Walker dropped fellow frontrunner Ralf Holden on the final circuit to maintain his unbeaten record in the born 2004 class. Ben Boyle outgunned Cameron Dudley for third and Kiera Prentice kept chasers James Devereau, Megan Boardman and Nathan Slack at bay to take the girls’ prize in fifth place.

Attacking out of the final corner, Jonty Bregazzi outpaced his companions in a lead group of six riders to win the born 2003 three lapper. Matthew Cooil and Matthew Black were second and third closely followed by Jack Christian, Thomas Skillicorn and leading girl Darcy Cain. In the following born 2002 & earlier grouping Lucas Mudie was the clear winner ahead of Kaitlin Slack, Aaron Lund, Emma Draper and Joseph Corkish.

In the under 10 racing bikes the frontrunners stayed together until the closing stages. Matthew Black tried to get away on the last lap, but in the end it all came down to a bunch gallop which Zac Walker won. Jonty Bregazzi and Matthew Cooil were second and third, with Ralf Holden and Matthew Black trailing in for fourth and fifth. Alex Lace wrapped up the top six.

A slow opening few laps also kept the field in close company in the under 12 racing bikes. Ten riders contested the finish with Tosh Teare edging out Charlie Gibson for the win. Conor Gelling was a good third ahead of Max Walker, Adam Scarffe, Aaron Lund and Will Corkill, who all finished in that order. Charlie Moss, Chloe Crellin and Amelia Sharpe were the first three girls in 9th, 10th and 12th places respectively.

Finally, in the under 16 racing bikes Nathan Draper outsprinted Matthew Bostock for the victory after the pair had broken away at two thirds distance. The chasing pack were unable to close the ever increasing gap and the two leaders were left to fight it out between themselves. Matthew Draper took the sprint for third, beating Michael Moss in the an exciting sprint finish. Conor Davies was the best under 14 rider in an impressive fifth place and Elizabeth Holden the first girl in sixth spot.
