Report/Results from the latest round of the Brooks Cycles Track League (Newcastle, Staffs) on Thursday 11th July

The weather was very hot at the latest round of the Brooks Cycles Track League at Newcastle, Staffs, on Thursday 11th July 2013. All groups competing rode hard over the full race program with some entertaining racing witnessed.

The Freewheelers races were first on the night and they were keenly contested with the top points scorers across the three groups as follows;

Group 1 Harry Horn Lyme RC
Group 2 Lucy Scott Lyme RC
Group 3 Ruby Baldwin Lyme RC
Cameron O’Neil
Owen Shepherd

The main league saw Sean Mayer ( Swinnerton Cycles) win the main sprint race of the night in the Keiren League. Sean attacked with 250m to go to win from Phil Houlton ( Brooks Cycles) and Barney Swinnerton ( Swinnerton Cycles). Sean also won the 200m TT event which opened the nights racing and the team sprint was won by Barney Swinnerton ,Phil Houlton and Dave Smith ( Stafford RC).

The A Class endurance races saw Alex Braybrooke ( velocity WD40) top score in winning the motor paced race and score second place in the 10 mile. League leader Will Thomas ( Velocity WD40) won the devil and Andy Leigh ( Velocity WD40) won the 10 lap scratch. The final 10 mile was won by Joel Partington ( Sportcity Velo)

The B Class events saw a good spread of winners with Robert Strandring ( Team V Sprint) winning the opening 8 lap scratch. This was Rob’s first appearance of the year after a successful 2012 season at the league. Joe Swinnerton ( Lyme RC) won the devil and Charlie Cox ( Lichfield CC ) took a double as he won the course de primes and was the first B rider over the line in the 10 mile scratch.

The youth numbers were down this week with other school functions clashing with the league however James Brayford ( Lyme RC) took full advantage of Liam Zwetchnikow’s absence in scoring 9 points with wins in the 200m TT and the devil. Alex Coates ( Lyme RC) did a great ride in the youth scratch to take the win from Sam Hall ( Lyme RC)
