Despite the stormy start to the day, conditions at the National Sports Centre in Douglas, Isle of Man last Tuesday night were near perfect for round 14 of Team Royal London 360’s youth league.

A total of 242 competitors produced a series of exciting races to keep the large crowd of spectators entertained.

The Hampson twins continue to dominate the novices class with Caitlyn and sister Chloe finishing ahead of the field in first and second places respectively. Tiana Kelly was a solid third and Leon Murphy led the chasing bunch home for fourth. Ryan Batty and Emily Rewsin completed the top six.

In the born 2008 & Later age group Myles Le Geyt took the honours with a clear advantage over T.J.Teare, who outsprinted Alec Sorby, Lennon Moore and Ollie Eyres for second place. Leading girl Fearne Bregazzi got the better of George Kinnish in the struggle for sixth and Eddy Dillon came in on his own to grab eighth. Summer Peters and Joel Long rounded off the top ten leader board.

Cian Howard went from the gun in the Born 2007 event, taking the chequered flag with a sizeable lead over Orry Lund in a safe second place. Dexter Russell filled the final place on the podium and Florence Griffin pipped Jemma Quayle to take the girls’ award in fourth spot. Zack Bellhouse outpaced Sophie Hindson, Ellana Skillan and Charlie Scarffe in the gallop for sixth, with Rio Kelly just behind in tenth place.

Cian Jackson headed Ivan Sorby over the line to pick up his ninth win in the Born 2006 race. Owen Collins edged out Harry Corkish and Zachary Dowson in the tussle for third, while Corey Peters maintained station in a lonely sixth spot. Samuel Devereau outgunned Harry Eyres and Jenson Artus in the dash for seventh, with relative newcomer and first girl Nicola Quaye pipping Sophie Smith for tenth.

In the Born 2005 class Harry Kneen attacked breakaway partner Mairi Harrison on the final lap to bag maximum points for the second week in succession. Tyler Annis overcame Oliver Sykes, Chloe Dillon and Harry Boyle in the rush for third and Monty Russell led Frank Kinnish and James Scott in for seventh. Luca Moretta beat Josh Holden and Daniel Martin in the sprint for tenth and Claire Mason just got the verdict over Harley Howland-Smith in the scrap for 13th..

Dillon Dowson was too quick for fellow frontrunners Ben Boyle, Ralf Holden, Cameron Dudley and Kiera Prentice in the gallop at the end of the Born 2004 contest . Megan Boardman was a close sixth and Nathan Slack held off Annabel Corkill and Amy Quayle in the battle for seventh.

Jonty Bregazzi and Percy Hampton escaped from the pack on the opening lap of the Born 2003 category and stayed away to the finish where Bregazzi edged out Hampton for the win. Zac Walker, who was riding up a class, fended off Matthew Cooil and Jack Christian in the dart for third and Darcy Cain claimed the girls’ honours in ninth spot. In the following Born 2002 & Earlier grouping Kaitlin Slack took the win ahead of Aaron Lund, with Emma Draper spearheading chasers James Harrison, Corrin Leeming and Joseph Corkish for third.

The three racing bike classes rounded off an exciting evening of racing.

In the Under 10’s event Jonty Bregazzi notched up his second success of the night, outsprinting thirteen other riders in a frantic bunch finish. Zac Walker and Jake Wilson were second and third, closely followed by Ralf Holden, Matthew Black and Dillon Dowson, who salvaged sixth after leading the sprint out. The first three girls were Darcy Cain, Kiera Prentice and Mairi Harrison in 14th, 16th and 17th places respectively.

The Under 12’s race followed a similar pattern, with Tosh Teare winning the thirteen-strong leading bunch sprint from Charlie Gibson and Max Walker. Emily Bridson, who along with Walker stretched the field on several occasions, was an excellent fourth ahead of Will Corkill and Adam Scarffe, who rounded off the top six. Chloe Crellin and the ever improving Amelia Sharpe were the second and third girls in ninth and tenth positions.

In the Under 16’s twenty five lapper Nathan Draper, Matthew Bostock, Michael Moss and Owen Dudley broke away in the early stages and, despite losing the services of Dudley with wheel trouble at half-distance, went on to lap the field – something that Mark Cavendish used to do on a regular basis when he was honing his skills down at the NSC..

At the finish Draper beat Bostock by the narrowest of margins, with Moss happy to take a fine third just behind them. Joe Haddock was a good fourth ahead of Will Draper and Conor Davies, with Phoebe Ferguson the first girl in tenth place.
