PRESS RELEASE: The 3-day festival will give cycling fans the opportunity to see the Tour de France first-hand as it passes through the grounds of Harewood House, one of the great houses of England, during Stage 1 (on Sat 5th July 2014) from Leeds to Harrogate.
In addition, the festival will offer led rides to watch the race from the best vantage points on both stages 1 and 2 in Yorkshire. Visitors can also enjoy the Tour action on big screens within the grounds.
Set in the picturesque grounds of Harewood House, the Festival of Cycling will be a celebration of all things two wheeled. The Big Sleep will offer camping and glamping so visitors can enjoy the Tour experience all weekend.
Visitors will benefit from a large Expo with major and emerging cycling and outdoor brands represented, as well as on-site entertainment focusing on a central stage, an array of cycling demonstrations delivered by Cycle Tours UK and a variety of catering options. Safe bicycle storage will also be provided.
Visitors will also have the unique opportunity to follow in the tracks of the Tour riders by getting involved in the various rides, which will be available to members of the public throughout the weekend. These will include sportives for all abilities, a women-only Cycletta, kids’ events and more. These mass-participation events will be delivered by Human Race, the UK’s largest mass-participation events company.
Harewood House will also be home to VIP hospitality for corporate guests and individuals. Potential participants and festival-goers are invited to be the first to learn about the full schedule of entertainment and events by registering their interest at http://www.festivalofcycling.org.
Christian Prudhomme, Director of the Tour de France, said: “We just can’t wait to come to Yorkshire for the Grand Depart in 2014. It’s a spectacular region and we hope that fans will come from all over and experience it first hand. With beautiful venues like Harewood House, there will be some incredible places to watch and some great ways to get involved.”
Christopher Newton, Director of Festival of Cycling, said: “The Festival of Cycling will be the hub for the Tour in Yorkshire and the perfect way to witness the race’s unrivalled atmosphere. But it’s not just about watching; our visitors can participate in many different events throughout the weekend – all made easy by on-site camping in the magnificent Harewood grounds.â€
Nick Rusling, CEO of Human Race, said: “There’s no better way to enjoy the Tour weekend in Yorkshire than to get on your bike and participate. With events for everyone on offer, there will be something to choose from no matter what your age or level of experience.â€
