Gary Dighton (Poole Wheelers) won the Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers 50, setting the standard on next year’s championship course

Eamonn Deane writes .. Dighton Earns His Dinner!
Sunday, 4 August | BJW 50:
A former British Best All-Rounder, Dighton was nearly four minutes clear of the promoting clubs Jon Clemas with sixty-nine year old super vet Terry Icke in third.
Gregg Parker (cc Weymouth) clocked the second fastest time of the day, 1.56.17, but incurred an 8 minute late start. Parker could not find the start, the timekeeper had sympathy but the Weymouth man was forced to take the time penalty putting him out of the prizes.
Time Trialling legend & former champion at the distance, Glenn Longland (Antelope RT) was first to finish and briefly held the course record before Dighton rocketed past the chequered board. All agreed it was a hard morning, the headwind, 7 mile stretch out to Troy Town on the Tolpuddle by-pass was a real grovel.
Of course it was fast on the return but do you ever get back what you lose? The Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers have been awarded the 50 mile Championships next year and organiser Bill Simmons was pretty pleased with the new course.
“Perhaps a few tweaks†he said. Dighton has also won the Jubilee 10 and finished second in the 25 this season and was promptly invited to the clubs annual dinner in November.
