News: Paignton Regatta Crit Win for Opie

Team UK Youth’s Chris Opie took victory in Friday evening’s Paignton Regatta Crit sponsored by Kitsons Solicitors, beating team mate Marcin Bialoblocki by two lengths.

The pair were too strong for the rest of the field, who were lapped after 40 minutes. Early animators included Martin Smith (AW Cycles), Andrew Perkins (Mid Devon CC) and James Williams (Spin Rotor), but none of them had any answer when first Opie and then Bialoblocki attacked. Into the closing stages the pair combined with Opie taking the sprint between them.

In the bunch, Smith and Seb Baylis (Madison Genesis) made efforts to get clear in the closing laps, but eventually Perkins jumped clear with half a lap remaining to take third pace with Andy Hitchens (Mid Devon CC) taking the sprint for 4th
