Welsh Team USN to open track cycling season at the Revolution Series this weekend in Manchester
![]() |
Team USN will kick start their 2013 winter track season at the Revolution Series in Manchester on Saturday 26 October, ahead of the UCI Track World Cup in November. For the first time, each round of the Revolution Series will be a UCI Class 1 event, with UCI points available for elite riders.
Team USN is part of Welsh Cycling’s Performance Programme, and aims to prepare and develop Wales’ track cyclists to compete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow maximising their potential to succeed on the world stage.
After a successful season on the road, Newport’s Jon Mould will be competing in the endurance events across all five rounds, with British Cycling Olympic Podium Programme athlete Lewis Oliva contesting the sprint competition. Carmarthen’s Scott Davies will join Jon Mould in the men’s endurance events at round one of the Revolution Series in Manchester.
Junior World Team Pursuit champions Amy Hill, Hayley Jones and Emily Kay will be part of Team USN this winter as they make the transition from junior to senior competition. They will feature in round one of the Revolution Series and will join Track World Cup medallist Ciara Horne at the UCI Track World Cup in Manchester.
Welsh Cycling Performance Director Matt Cosgrove said: “We are pleased that USN is extending their support of cycling in Wales, by competing at the Revolution Series in both the Elite Championships and the Future Stars competitions. The introduction of the UCI Class 1 events will also provide a larger field of international competitors, which will give our riders more experience of high level competition in preparation for the Commonwealth Games next summer.â€
This winter, Team USN will also feature in the Revolution Future Stars competition across all five rounds of the series. The Future Stars competition is designed to develop the UK’s young cyclists as they compete in a league across the season for boy’s and girl’s titles.
Project 2018 Development Officer, Ian Jenkins said: “The Future Stars competition provides young cyclists a fantastic opportunity to compete on the track. Welsh Cycling’s Project 2018 initiative is all about giving youth riders opportunities to develop their skills, and the Revolution Series allows the riders to experience racing in a pressured environment, helping their development as young athletes.â€
Round one of the Revolution Series will include an afternoon and evening session, featuring Elite Championship, UCI-sanctioned events and Future Stars competition. The Elite Championship and Future Stars competition are spread across all five rounds of the Revolution Series, culminating in the season finale at the London Velodrome, Lee Valley VeloPark, on 14-15 March 2014.
Team USN will also be competing at the UCI Track World Cup, Manchester 1 – 3 November.
