Paul Oldham (Team Hope Factory Racing) kept up his lead on the National Trophy yellow jersey but was made to work hard or it having to come from a deficit of 40secs and dropping him down to fifteenth after he managed to drop his chain on lap two.

On a fine sunny but chilly day in Southampton, Oldham eased away on the opening lap and started to build a lead but soon after the finish line he seemed to stop and Ben Sumner (Beeline Cycles) was close enough to capitalise and took a large lead.

In third place was U23 series leader Adam Martin (Metaltek) but he had Jody Crawforth (Hargroves Cycles), Steven James ((Hargroves Cycles), Tom Van Den Bosch (Hargroves Cycles) and Oli Beckingsale (Endura MTB Racing) for company.

As Sumner stretched his lead, Beckingsale took up the chase as Oldham started to make up for lost time. It took Oldham just three laps to finally get onto the wheel of Sumner and he didn’t waste any time getting past him to retain his lead. With a lap to go, Oldham lead Sumner by 17 secs with Van Den Bosch and Beckingsale together at 38 secs with Adam Martin fourth at 48secs.

As riders in front of him pitted, Martin seized the opportunity and passed both riders and started to pull away. He soon had a gap and held on to it until the finish. Oldham took a well deserved win ahead of Sumner with Martin taking the final podium spot with a late charge.
