StreetVelodrome Series, the UK’s only pop-up velodrome event, is set to tour the UK in 2014.

The inaugural series was created to reflect the growing appetite for the drama of close action track racing and encourage community and spectator engagement. All the events will be televised in a series with one programme dedicated to each venue.
Within two hours, any high street or public space is turned into a heart pounding, action packed theatre of track style cycle sport; offering a new level of spectator involvement and creating a completely new competition for both professional and amateur riders, with every level of experience.
With guest celebrity and professional riders, plus two especially designed progressively banked curve sections placed 45 metres apart, the StreetVelodrome track is lined with cheering spectators. Add in cheerleaders, a live race presentation team, DJ set, live timing and you’re ready to make your street the velodrome.
StreetVelodrome, along with its partners and ambassadors, aim to promote awareness of the positive impact sport can have on society, by providing opportunities for local communities. This is a unique series of events which will bring the exciting sport of track cycling back to the UK public, supporting the Olympic legacy.
The televised StreetVelodrome Series 2014 will take six teams of guest riders around the country for ten rounds. The teams will be joined by the locally qualifying amateur riders to compete for the top slot on the series medal table.
To Participate
Amateur competitors get a unique chance to take part in this dynamic and exciting event. After a valuable practice session they will set a flying lap qualifying time in front of the cheering crowd.
If they are fast enough they will qualify to compete in the Men’s or Women’s ‘PRELIMS’. The finalists will get to join one of the six StreetVelodrome Teams and take part in a series of thrilling head to head knock-out pursuit races against pro riders and other special guest riders, all battling to avoid elimination and for a place in the Finals.
The Finals will see the four surviving riders line up for two semi finals which will decide the line up for the all important medal races. The final podium will see the top three riders receive Gold, Silver or Bronze medals for their teams.
But it’s not all about speed! There will be technical skill to ride those banked corners as fast as possible, without losing time on the entry or exit of the bends. And if they loose? Riders can secure a Wild Card and get back into the competition.
Using the StreetVelodrome Spectator’s App, fans trackside can vote for their favourite rider. If selected the rider gets a ‘Wild Card’ through to the next round.
