Round Nine of the Mosquito Bikes London and SE Cyclo-Cross League has been moved to the Redbridge Cycle Circuit (Hog Hill) after the original venue – Herne Hill Velodrome – was judged too muddy for the event.

Wet weather and repair works at the Velodrome have combined to make many sections of the circuit too sticky for a successful race, according to organising club Herne Hill Youth CC.

HHYCC event promoter Bill Wright said “We always get very good feedback from riders and spectators about our events, so we were worried that the mud is just too heavy for enjoyable and competitive racing across all categories. Holding a race in the current conditions would also cause further damage to the trails and set back the repairs and rebuilding which are already underway.”

HHYCC are working with other clubs and users of the facility to try to find a long term solution to the issue; hopefully including resurfacing the off-road trails and improving their drainage to safeguard the future of ‘cross racing and mountain biking at the historic venue.

Timings and prices remain the same for the event at Hog Hill.
