In front of a lot of British spectators who made the trip to this popular event in Belgium, there was British success to celebrate with British Champion Nikki Harris making the podium and Dan Tulett winning the Youth event.

There was a sunny and dry start for the Women’s race with Sabrina Stultiens (NED) leading to the first bend with Helen Wyman (GBR) & Nikki Harris (GBR) following closely. Halfway round the first lap, Katherine Compton (USA) raced to the front after a bad start and after a lap led from Wyman, De Boer, Harris, Cant & Stultiens.

Compton then opened the throttle a bit more to increase her lead with Cant in pursuit with the chasers fighting for 3rd/6th places. Winner of that was Harris with another podium finish. A very pleased Harris said afterwards “Must like the sand. Third place, 3/3 on the podium in the World Cups so far this season :) happy with that!! Now to Girona for some hard work! Loved all the cheers today people ! Great to hear so many English over too and cheers for all the nice tweets!”

Gabby Durrin meanwhile said on Twitter, “Not the result I wanted & not what I know I am capable of. Seem to have a stomach bug. Time to rest up & get some good training in Spain!” In the Youth boys event with lots of British riders in the race, Dan Tulett was delighted with his victory saying on Twitter “Words can’t describe my feelings right now , just won the koksijde World Cup !! Dream came true”.

In the Men’s, Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles) finished in a disappointing for him, 28th place. He said afterwards “Was going alright in group going for 23rd when I attempted a front flip. Didn’t end well. Came in 28th and disappointed. 18th overall now. Can’t thank the Brit support enough! That was crazy. Never heard so many shouts before. Sorry I didn’t deliver. Hope everyone had a great day”.
