Great first season for the VC Meudon Racing Team as they top the Surrey League and the South Eeast regional points table.

New race team VC Meudon RT was formed in 2013 with riders primarily from the VC Meudon cycling club and talented local youngsters. The team is based around Fleet / Farnham / Aldershot but races across the UK.

When the Eelmore series of circuit races started in April, the 3rd/4th category races were dominated by VC Meudon successes with the first race win going to 22 year old Kieran Ali in his first year of racing. In the Elite race, the Meudon team fought hard against formidable Elite teams Pedal Heaven and Felt and came away with some success with several top ten finishes, with Darrell Pembroke achieving a well earned third place at the end of May.
Onto stage racing and four of the boys went to ride the hilly Ras De Cymru in Wales, with Mike Lancaster getting an impressive 2nd place on the brutal final stage. This set the boys up nicely for the Tour of Sussex where the team achieved a podium.
Next came possibly the toughest course of the Surrey League at Bletchingley where Espoir Albert Ellison got his maiden road race win with a strong supporting role by the team. Albert’s winning margin over the rest of the field was around two minutes and he collapsed over the line after a soul searching 20 mile solo breakaway.
This was followed by Darrell Pembroke’s second place at Alford where the team also managed 1st and 2nd in the bunch sprint to claim 2nd, 4th, 5th and 10th in the race overall. Sprinters Richard Unwin and James Bevan ended the season strongly with a hatful of top 5 results to boost the team’s points tally, finished off by two 3rd places in one day at the Brighton circuit races for Richard.

VC Meudon has finished off the season top of the Surrey League with Craig Wilson, Richard Unwin and Albert Ellison placed 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. For the first time in a decade, the club has also topped the South East regional rankings with nearly a thousand points which is an amazing achievement to build on in the coming years. The club has achieved more regional points than any other team in the whole of the UK.
For 2014, the team has added three new young members and a new experienced management team and are sure of a bright future with 60% of the team now under 23 years old.
With many thanks to sponsors Pedal Heaven, Four4th High Performance Lights, Care for Health, Wise and Co. Chartered Accountants, and Matrix Fitness for their contribution to the team success.
