The routes for the brand new Gran Fondo Conwy cycle sportive have been announced

The Gran Fondo Conwy is a non-competitive cycle event which is organised by Always Aim High Events who also organise the epic Etape Eryri and the fantastic Tour de Mon.
The event, which will take place on Sunday 27th April 2014, will take riders around some of the best climbs, views and roads Conwy and Denbighshire has to offer. The Gran Fondo Conwy has a choice of four routes available meaning that the sportive offers a challenge for cyclists of all abilities.
The four routes are the Mawr, the Canol, the Bach and the Gran Fondo Teulu family ride. Each route will start and finish at the Event Village which will be held at Conwy Quay overlooking the stunning Conwy Castle.
The Mawr route is as beautiful as it is epic. The 104 mile course will firstly take riders up the magnificent Great Orme, along the North Wales coast and all the way out to the historical town of Denbigh before guiding them down to the glorious Llyn Brenig.
The route will also take riders from Bylchau to Llanwrst following the same route that Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish et al. cycled on in 2013 as part of the iconic Tour of Britain route. After taking in the picturesque Llanrwst bridge, the Mawr will also include the brutal climb up to Llanddoged which is an opportunity to be relished for anyone who enjoys a challenge!
The medium sized Canol is no easy ride and at 70 miles takes in a lot of the same route as the Mawr. Like the Mawr, the Canol riders will also make their way up the Great Orme and through Abergele but will take a more direct route to Llanwrst where they will get to enjoy the views from the iconic Llanwrst Bridge before also embarking upon the challenging climb toward Llanddoged.
The Gran Fondo Bach, is a perfect ride for anybody building up their fitness or who is new to cycling. The route is 42 miles long and takes riders along the glorious North Wales coastline with stunning views across the Irish Sea.
The final choice of route at the sportive will be the Gran Fondo Teulu. The Gran Fondo Teulu is a family ride that will take riders of all ages and capabilities along the cycle path from Conwy to West Shore, with a choice of turnaround points meaning Teulu riders can choose their distance.
Event planner and Always Aim High Events Director, Rob Samuel, is thrilled with the excitement already surrounding the Gran Fondo Conwy and is very pleased with route design. He said:
“We have spent a lot of time planning and working on the route. There are so many iconic locations in Conwy and Denbighshire so we worked long and hard to ensure that the route incorporates as many of them as possible.
We are also delighted with how many people are getting excited about the event. We have close to 100 people signed up already and that number is growing all the time.
As always, we will be working very closely with the local community to ensure that the Gran Fondo Conwy is a great day for everyone. We will be making donations to local community groups in return for their time marshaling and we will be partnering with local businesses. Not only that but the Event Village will turn Conwy Quay into a mecca for cyclists with live music, attractions, displays and other entertainment that the whole family can enjoy.
So even if don’t want to cycle the Gran Fondo Conwy why not come down and enjoy the entertainment and the festival atmosphere that our events are becoming famous for.â€
