The 126 page document from the Velo Club Lincoln contains detailed proposals for the events which would take place between June 25th and 28th 2015. A ‘Roadman’s Course’ is proposed for the time trials in the Lincolnshire Wolds on Thursday June 25th with a 11 kilometre circuit planned which includes a few climbs to get the riders out of the saddle on each lap.

An extra event on Friday evening June 26th is on the cards with a Criterium event based on a 1 kilometre circuit around the famous and majestic Lincoln Cathedral with events for youth categories alongside those for women and men.

The Lincoln Grand Prix Sportive would be on Saturday 27th with four routes to cater for all abilities ranging from 100 miles down to 30 miles. This event has grown rapidly in stature and attracted over 1,300 entrants in 2013, only its 3rd year on the calendar.

Another extra would be ‘The Uphill Dash’ on Saturday evening with all manner of cyclists and machines competing over a short sprint to Castle Square. Sunday June 28th and the two National Road Race Championships are planned on roads firstly taking the riders out of the City on a starting loop before coming back in to Lincoln to complete a number of laps of the famous Lincoln Grand Prix circuit and the cobbled 1 in 6 Michaelgate climb.

All in all, it promises to be a bonanza of cycling in the area bringing not only the country’s best riders to the county but also bringing a major economic benefit to local business.

2015 will be the 60th year of the Lincoln Grand Prix on which the road race plans are based but also the 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta on June 15th with many exciting events happening during this period alongside the re-opening of Lincoln Castle grounds and walls after an extensive works programme. Lincoln Castle holds one of the last remaining signed copies of Magna Carta.

The City of Lincoln and county of Lincolnshire now await the decision of British Cycling expected early in the New Year.
