Revolution Series will begin the New Year in style on the first weekend of 2014: Saturday, 4th January in Manchester.

The National Cycling Centre will host action-packed afternoon and evening sessions for Round 3 of the 2013-14 Series as the battle for the Elite Championship heats up.

Top British riders are back in the fold after the Mexico round of the World Cup: Laura Trott, Ed Clancy and Jason Kenny all ride, with Olympic Road Race silver medalist Lizzie Armitstead (Boels-Dolmans) making her 2013-14 debut.

Pete Kennaugh will lead Team Sky’s challenge. The Manxman played a crucial role in Chris Froome’s Tour de France victory last summer, and has become a key cog in the Team Sky machine.

Kennaugh tweeted on Monday evening: “So who’s coming down to Manchester for the @revolutionuk on the 4th jan, can’t wait to get back on the boards!” Last January, Kennaugh displayed his early-season form with a stunning ride in the Points Race at Revolution Series, lapping the field twice. This season, that 40km Points Race is scheduled for the afternoon session (1-4pm) and promises to be one of the highlights of the day.

German team Rudy Project RT top the Elite Championship table after a strong showing at Round 2 in Glasgow, setting a fearsome pace in the 1km Madison Time Trial. Telegraph All Stars are second and Team Sky third, with last season’s champions Rapha Condor JLT fourth.

Giro d’Italia stage winner Alex Dowsett (Movistar Team) will ride for the Telegraph All Stars at Round 3 alongside Adam Blythe, the BMC Racing Team man who’s signed for NFTO Pro Cycling in 2014. Dowsett and Blythe’s presence should give Telegraph All Stars every chance of retaking the lead in the duel for the Elite Championship.

The afternoon session starts at 1pm (doors open 12pm). Evening session begins 7pm (doors 6pm). Tickets available for all sessions here (very few left for evening session)

Watch highlights on BT Sport 2: Tuesday 7th January, 10pm. Repeats: Wednesday 8th January, 6.30pm, Saturday 11th January, 1.15pm (both BT Sport 2) See the Round 3 preview and all information on the official Revolution Series website
