Question and Answer

Have you noticed any changes to the sport of women’s racing in that time?
Denise: More women are now coming through at grass roots level

What has been the highlight of 2013 for you?
Denise: In 2013, I started a women’s cycling team WCS RT. Building the team has been hard work but we now have a group of wome who train, race and socialize together.  I got back into time trialing and at 48 did a 22.20 for a 10 and a 35.31 for a 15 mile Time Trial. Which race has been the best one to do?
Denise: 10 mile time trials in 2013

Do you coach yourself or have a coach to help structure your training?
Denise: My Partner Rob Townsend give me pointers to help me improve

How many hours a week would you train on and off the bike?
Denise: Between 8 and 12 hours a week

Do you work full time/part time, at home looking after the family or a full time bike rider!
Denise: I have my own company Shehair UK Ltd. Some weeks its hard to fit in the training.

What is the best thing about racing bikes?
Denise: I love the bikes, racing is hard and I always enjoy a chat after at the HQ

And what is the one thing you enjoy least!
Denise: Fear of doing a bad ride in a race

If you could change one of your weaknesses into a strength, which one would it be?
Denise: Would like to be able to chill out and enjoy racing more

What type of bike you do ride and what type of groupset wheels does it have?
Denise: For racing, I have a Ceepo with Campagnolo group set & Reynolds STB 66 Wheels

Are you ‘geeky’ when it comes to the equipment on the bike?
Denise: Yes

What will you doing training wise during the winter
Denise: I try to do 10 hours a week if possible but it can be difficult with work

Do you see 2014 being a big year for Women’s racing with a UCI Stage race bringing pro teams here?
Denise: Fingers crossed it will be

What is the one thing outside of pedalling the bike that you feel you need to learn to be a better bike rider.
Denise: Take advice from others in all aspects of your life, it will help you succeed

What do you enjoy doing when not riding the bike
Denise: Evenings out nice food and wine

If you had to go and race abroad, where would you choose to go and why?
Denise: Spain. Great people, great weather, great food
