Just four weeks prior to the Tour de France Grand Depart in Yorkshire, the British Masters Road Race Championships (BC) make a welcome return to the calendar for 2014.

This is open to all categories (E/1/2/3/4) of rider aged 30+, and based on five year age groups. Accommodating the full range of age groups requires an intensive two days of racing. There are six races with two age groups racing together, but with separate results.

In addition, we have received exceptional Police approval to run two races concurrently, separated at the start by approximately five minutes. Reflecting the increasing levels of interest there will also be a separate Women’s Masters race.

Entries opened on 18 January and it is already very active. It is anticipated that the total field will be 250-300 riders from all over the UK.

The race is being held on the well known Central Region course “Cublington” close to Milton Keynes/Dunstable. It is a 20km course starting just outside Wing, Bucks and will head towards Stewkley (a long drag) turning left as you enter the village towards Dinton via a fast descent.

On to the A413 and left through Whitchurch via a fast descent, then bear left for Cublington. There is a short tough climb in to Cublington, which is also where the finish will be, and then a fast descent back towards Wing to complete the circuit.

The race schedule is:
Saturday 7th June
08.45 Male 40-49 age group 120km – 6 laps
14.00 Male 50-59 age group 100km – 5 laps
14.05 Male 60+ age group 80km – 4 laps

Sunday 8th June
08.30 Male 30-39 age group 140km – 7 laps
09.00 All Women aged 30+ 80km – 4 laps

Race organiser, Wayne Thomas, has established an excellent reputation for a high standard of organisation over the past few years with four LVRC National Championships, and a high focus on the safety of both the race convoy and the public at large.

Each race convoy will comprise of three NEG mobile marshals, two lead cars, peloton (up to 60 riders), Chief Commissaire, Neutral Service and Mobile Medical. The Accredited Marshal scheme will also be fully deployed, with its inherent powers to stop traffic.

Wayne is currently in negotiations with several potential sponsors, and he can be contacted at wayne.thomas@wt-consulting.com or mobile: 07831 12 3220
