Apres Winter Series

ApesWinterSeries

A thinner than usual but equally strong field contested this weeks Après Winter series here at Preston Park, Brighton. The welcome return of Ryan Visser and new face, Dynamo’s James Local certainly spiced things up.

After some interestingly heated skirmishes, James instigated the break, soon to be joined by Redhill’s Visser, pulling out a good gap, shortly breached by Mr Brooks, a devout Arsenal fan for some reason. Together they lapped the field and whilst all took a break, VC Raphael’s Brooks and Ryan took off again, followed by Local who unfortunately mistimed his turn with the experienced duo showing their wheels.

They lapped the field again, this time whilst Ryan had a well deserved breather, Brooks was off again, pulling away clear on his own. James showed true grit staying out on his own for a good 15 mins before latching on the back of the main group ensuring 3rd spot whilst Ryan pulled away guaranteeing 2nd. Simon again took the honours with another impressive display. He knows how to suffer. Probably from watching Arsenal.

In the 3rds, VC Jubliees young Zak Corum-Haines had us all shouting him on with a solo break with 6 laps to go, on junior gears his legs were certainly spinning at an impressive rate – touch and go but Dynamos Jeremy Brougham showed strength and timing to split the field and take Sorby Hinds Joe McConnell in his wake who kept his powder dry to take it on the line. Nice job though young Zak! Proper effort.

Talking of which, out the night before, Brighton Mitres Ian Monaghan took his second win in a row after Fareham Wheelers Chris Ewing nearly soloed away for victory. Only a concerted effort from Monaghan pulled it back, before Ewing took off again, having us all on our feet and shouting him on.

Monaghan showed his pedigree though, saving enough to be 5 lengths clear at the line. We like to see aggressive, safe racing here at Preston Park and all races this week had it. Fareham seem to be up for it and not afraid to be prepared to lose a race to win it. Well done, we hope you come back.

The U12/14/16 is turning into a good race, with youngsters coming from far and wide, well done parents…LVYCCs Georg Mew Jenson took it on the line from Wyndymillas Chris Jenkinson. Another win from young Jack Webb, Chard Wheelers taking it from young Daniel Allpress.
