SweetSpot Group, the company famous for organizing The Tour of Britain, The Pearl Izumi Tour Series, The Johnston Health Tech GP Series and of course The Women’s Tour have increased their support and commitment to women’s cycling by becoming involved as a key sponsor of the long-standing women’s classic race, The 3 Days of Bedford International Stage Race, by sponsoring the final day’s racing plus the Young Rider jersey.
This major stage race covering 175 kilometres on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend in early May is now in its 22nd year and has become the premier event on the women’s domestic racing calendar. With a prize list this year of £2,000, the race continues to grow in stature taking it to a new level in 2014.

Guy Elliott of SweetSpot said “We have admired the Bedford 3 Day for many years and recognize how fantastic it has been in the development of women’s cycling in UK and we wanted to play our part in securing and growing the event. We hope that many of the competitors racing this year in Bedford will one day in the future ride The Women’s Tour”

“It is especially pleasing that, largely due to the efforts of Jon Miles – the organizer of the Bedford 3 Day – The Women’s Tour will be coming to Bedford in 2014 for what promises to be a thrilling stage finish on The Embankment right in the centre of the town. We always refer to Bedford as “The home of women’s cycling” and we hope in this way to honour the debt women’s cycling has to Jon Miles who has done so much for the sport over some pretty lean years. It is so pleasing for all of us that the women’s racing agenda is now moving forward in leaps and bounds”.

Jon Miles said” I am thrilled that SweetSpot have got involved with this stage race; they have certainly shaken up women’s cycle racing at the top end so for them to recognise this stage race is wonderful”

This long standing event has seen a whole host of top riders make their initial mark in this tough race with riders such as Lizzie Armistead, Laura Trott, Hannah Barnes and Joanna Rowsell all having started their racing careers on the roads of Bedford and of course are now taking part in this year’s Women’s Tour.
