News – Keirin Manchester 2014

Already a hugely successful annual event in London, organisers Rollapaluza in partnership with the National Cycling Centre bring this exciting spectacle to Manchester.

Saturday 28th June 6pm | National Cycling Centre
Tickets: £15 conc: £10

Wildly popular and steeped in rituals, Keirin is the ultimate test of a sprinter’s speed, strength and skill. While riders jostle for position behind a motorbike, fans can enjoy a track-side buzz usually only found in Japan, where the sport originated. Exciting racing, traditional snacks, and pumping music make this a unique evening out.

One of the fastest events on the track, riders will complete a total of 8 laps, the first five of which are paced by the motorbike, before the athletes unleash their final sprint often crossing the line in tight “blanket” finishes at over 40mph.

Competitors in three categories will race through hard-fought heats in order to qualify for places in the finals in men’s, womens and an “all comers” race, where young riders test their mettle against past-masters and top amateurs from around the UK, in order to claim their share of the £6000 prize pot.
