Tour of Normandie – Moses loses yellow

Polish Champion Lukasz Wisniowski won the 4th stage of Tour de Normandie after incredible finish and takes the leader’s jersey. Tom Moses drops to fourth.

The fourth stage in Normandy, 172 km between Domfront and Villers-Bocage was expected to be tough and in the end, saw splits at the front of the race where Tom Moses lost his leader’s jersey.

The route of the day provided opportunities for opportunists wanting to upset the overall standings. The work done since Wednesday by the RaphaCondor JLT team in defence of the yellow jersey began to weigh heavily. At kilometre 9, Paul Ourselin (Sojasun Hope CBCA), Benoit Jarrier (Brittany Dried Environment) and Guillaume Thevenot (Vendée U) were the first to escape.

It was a break lasted until the final circuit around Villers-Bocage to be covered four times. There were lots of attacks from then on but it wasn’t until 5km from the finish that 4 riders escaped to victory.

Behind it, the chase dithered thus benefiting Luksz Wisniowski (Etixx), Erwann Corbel (Brittany Dried Environment), Dylan Teuns (BMC Development Team) and Bertjan Lindeman (Rabobank Development Team).

The four battled it out for the win with Wisniowski winning from Corbel whilst twenty two seconds behind, Raleigh’s Morgan Kneisky won the bunch kick for 5th place. Prior to the sprint, Raleigh’s Yanto Barker fell heavily after a rider crashed in front of him. The number one domestic based rider in 2013 said afterwards he was okay but battered by the fall.
