Lizzie Armitstead was second in the Olympic road race in London 2012 and has got out of the blocks well in 2014 with a win and second in the World Cup races. This Sunday, she takes the world cup leader’s jersey into the Coupe du Monde round, the Tour of Flanders.

“I am very happy that I am staying until 2016, a decision that was made because Danny Stam and Ellen van Dijk remain for the same period. It is easier for me to stay with a team I like to work with which has ambitious people within the team.”

“I think as a team we have the potential to be the best team in the world and I would like to make my contribution.”

“Danny Stam and the sponsors have helped this team grow into – in my opinion – the most professional women’s team in the world. But in the meantime, I feel at home at Boels-Dolmans and I’m sure that I’m here in the coming years this is the best place to be, during the Games and Beyond. ”

Team manager Danny Stam has been working since 2012 with Armitstead. A year later, the duo signed with Boels-Dolmans. Stam predicted then that building a top team needed time. “It takes time to do this. Now we can focus more on certain rates and that appears to be bearing fruit”.
