Andrew Syme (Primera-UK Biking) won the 35 mile Sandie Radford memorial road race at Nomansland in the New Forest, pulling away on the final climb of Pipers Wait Hill.

Rowan Horner (VC ST Raphael) & Brook Elgie (Peter Hansford Racing) instigated an early four man break but it was short lived, the sixty five strong field attentive in the cold breeze. Free roaming New Forest ponies caused a few problems wandering across the roads, blissfully ignorant of bike racing.

Roland Tilley (Ride.co.uk-Training Room), Peter Warner (Bournemouth Jubilee) & James Horton (Cannondale) held a 10 second advantage on the road to Bramshaw after an hour of racing and it looked promising. The first of two climbs of Pipers did for Warner and he returned to the shrinking bunch.

Tilley & Horton were working hard but the gap was never really big enough as first Kim Little (Merida Factory Racing) and then Syme bridged across. It was the first thing the 20 year old from Camberley in Surrey, studying engineering at Bournemouth University, had done and his fresh legs would prove decisive. Syme led up the hill and pushed on as the challengers faded and he clearly enjoyed the moment.

The late Sandie Radford was the wife of Michael Radford of Radford Accountants, long term sponsors of organiser Glenn Longland. Originally a 50 mile race run under British Cycling regulations, climbing Pipers Wait Hill 10 times, the Sandie Radford Memorial Road Race is now run under TLI rules.
