Team Report – WNT – the ups and downs of a new team

Team Press Release
Sophie headed to Lincolnshire for the Pedalpushers rd1 circuit race and even though she mistimed her sprint she managed a fantastic 3rd place, her first podium as a senior!

Sam and Marcus spent a week at the MACH show, a big engineering show at the NEC, on the WNT stand with the Moto3 racing motorbike that we run at the British Superbike championship. It was a very enjoyable experience where they met a lot of very interesting people.

They also both managed to get ill which laid them both low for the following weekend which meant Sam missed the first Yorkshire road race ladies league. The following weekend saw the team racing in both the Midlands mountain bike cross country series and at the Medway VC crit.

Both Sophie and Elisa raced the Medway VC crit. It was the biggest women’s field that they had had racing at the new cyclopark. Sophie had another good race covering any dangerous moves and staying near the front of the bunch.

Someone opened the sprint a bit early but Sophie managed to hang on for 5th place, a good result in what was a quality line up. Elisa had just arrived back in the UK after doing a big training block in the French Alps so struggled a bit on the flat circuit as she recovers from some big mountain riding.

Marcus and Sam headed to the Peak District for round 2 of the midlands cross country series, it was set to be Sam’s first ever mountain bike race. She entered the women’s sport class, had an excellent start, taking the lead off the line and never looked back, winning comfortably, team WNT’s first win!!! Marcus had a race to forget…….

The team didn’t get a start in the Bedford 3 day stage race but Sophie decided to enter the support race taking place between stages on bank holiday Monday. Sophie managed to get in the early break, then as that was caught, attacked again helping to split the field. She then launched a sprint up the final climb, crossing the line alone for her, and Team WNT’s, first ever road race victory!

Joining the team for the rest of the season will be 2nd category road racer Rose Osborne, she already has 2 victories to her credit this year and we all welcome her to the team
