Club News – Tolhurst triumphant at inter-club 10
Medway Velo CC rider, Dan Tolhurt made a rare competitive appearance to win the inter-club time-trial between The Wigmore CC and the MVC on Wednesday, 7 May 2014. The 10-mile event, which was held in Iwade, was hotly contested and riders had to be turned away after it reached a full field of 30 riders.
Dan rode extremely well to win by 28 seconds in a time of 23.06 minutes. An excellent ride in very windy conditions. 2nd was Wigmore’s Paul Vine in 23.34. Other strong rides came from new member James Amy, who was 5th overall in 24.05 and Chris La Thangue in 24.35. Lee Pilcher made over a 2 minute improvement from his previous attempt on the course to finish in 25.17. First Lady was MVC rider Vicky Strila in 28.14.
The team event which takes the fastest combined times for 6 riders from each club was won by the Wigmore in 2.26.56. The Medway were just over one minute behind with 2.28.08. Press Secretary for the MVC, Sally Smith said: ‘This is the first time in several years that the club have managed to fill all 15 slots in the event and a good reflection on the great talent within the team. Well done to everyone who represented the club thanks to the Wigmore for making it such a fun, friendly and competitive event.
‘I would like to see the team event changed to include a women’s time counting in the team of six in future, in an effort to encourage more ladies to take part.’
