Team News – Win for Rapha Condor JLT

The Men in Black had gone into the second week of the series as overall leaders, following Graham Briggs’ individual win in Barrow last Thursday. It was the on-form Briggs who once again made the winning move in Peterborough, escaping with three other riders midway through the hour long race.

While GB junior Matthew Gibson broke clear late in the race for the individual win, Briggs was forced to settle for third place, after Mike Northey of Madison Genesis was relegated for an irregular sprint. Briggs may have been disappointed to miss out on his second individual win in as many rounds, but his Rapha Condor JLT teammates dominated the sprint behind the break, with Felix English and Ed Clancy leading the bunch home to give Rapha Condor JLT the team win.

Team manager John Herety was pleased to see his riders take their first team win of the 2014 series. “It’s great to take the team win tonight. Not only did we have Graham up there in the move but the work the guys did behind was really crucial for us. Both Mike (Cuming) and Kristian (House) did a lot of work to set up the sprint, and then Ed and Felix finished it off. Given that both Mike and Felix have been out for a long time with injuries, it was a very solid team performance.”

“It has been a good start but it is still a long hard series and we really need to stay on it and keep performing consistently over the coming weeks.” Rapha Condor JLT now lead the series by three points from closest rivals Madison Genesis. The racing continues on Thursday when the Tour Series heads to Aberystwyth, where both Kristian House and Ed Clancy have won for the Men in Black in the past.
