News – Beaumont Trophy & Curlew Cup

A week before the British Road Championships in Wales are two big races on the calendar, the UCI Beaumont Trophy and the Women’s Curlew Cup. Both, says organiser Peter Harrison are under subscribed which considering they come a week before the biggest road races of the year for both men and women is bewildering.

With just under four weeks to go to the event, the organiser is looking for entries from non-UCI teams for the Beaumont Trophy on a course used for the British Road Champs a few years ago when the winner was Bradley Wiggins.

“So far all of the UK UCI Teams have committed to the event” says Harrison. “However other non UCI GB Elite teams have yet to enter and I am just wondering if it is because they are not aware that they can ride” he adds.

Teams eligible to ride the Beaumont Trophy (UCI 2.2) are UCI European Tour Teams, National Teams (including WorldTour riders), Regional Teams and Club teams. Teams must be between 6-8 riders with five to start. The organiser has a permit for 140 riders with a prize fund of about £8,000 and so far has a start list no where near a 100 riders.

The Womens race so far has just over 50 entries but the organiser has a permit for 100 riders and the only BC stipulation is that there must be no more than eight in a team. This race can have individual riders as well.
