Once again, stunning scenery provided an amazing backdrop for the majority of stage 2 of the Tour Des Fjords. The 202km stage between Eidfjord and the coastal town of Haugesund with its two mountain passes was always going to be tough. With so many riders still in contention for the overall win and the time bonuses on offer during the stage, the attacks came thick and fast from the start.

It took almost 70km of constant attacking before a group finally prized itself clear. Tom Stewart had been trying to go clear for the second day but being so close on general classification was given little freedom. Liam Holohan and Scott Davies, both only separated from the race lead by bonus seconds, concentrated on saving energy by hiding in the main bunch.

The leading quartet gained a massive 12 minutes at one point but the concerted chase, combined with a stern head wind, saw the lead tumble with the bunch finally catching the last of the leaders just 5km from the finish. This perfectly set-up a huge bunch sprint won by Milan San Remo rider Alexanda Kristof. Liam, Scott and Tom all finished comfortably in the front group and maintained their general classification positions.

Team Manager – Roger Hammond “The guys rode well today, our GC riders looked after themselves. Today was more a day of maintaining position and saving energy, which they did well. Tomorrow we’ll see more action I think. They are looking strong and ready so we’re looking forward to it!”
