Club News – Kings Lynn CC

The 2014 season has seen the club grown to new heights as a results of the hard work put in by the its dedicated members. Wednesday night saw the club enter two teams into the highly competitive Lotus Cycle Racing Leagues- 4 up Team Time Trial, taking on 4 laps of the Norwich based Lotus Cars Test circuit against the clock. Despite loosing 1 man due to a puncture, Team A managed to finish on the podium with an average speed of 26.6mph, securing them 3rd place on the night, narrowly missing out on 2nd by just 2 seconds.

Saturday saw the clubs keen road racer- Freddy Pett take a fine 2nd place at Darley Moor circuit race to back up his 2nd place at NCRA’s Summer Road Race the previous weekend. This result was enough to see take his British Points tally to well over 50, which has promoted him to 2nd cat licence status after only starting racing in March, managing to go from 4th cat to 2nd cat in only 10 races. Freddy is looking forward to upping his training and preparations ready for him to start the new challenge of competing at Nation B and Regional A races against Elite, 1st and 2nd cat riders.

The club Chairman Gary Smith was also in action on Saturday as he chased SPOCO Points at the Plomesgate 25 mile Time Trial on the B25/9. This course provided a real challenge as there is nowhere for the riders to get into a rhythm, with fluctuating course speeds from 35mph then 17mph the next. Despite this, Gary managed to set a course PB at 24.1 mph average and securing him an excellent overall finishing position.

Sunday offered 6 other club riders the chance to test their legs at the Ely & District CC Open 10 Mile TT. Ben Keeley finished as top KLCC rider in 5th place with a seasons best time of 22.58. David Proctor and James Dewart both enjoyed top 20 finishes in 9th and 20th places respectively. Jamie Mcrann, Miles Higby and Lee Nowak also put in some great performances to do the club proud.

Next up for Kings Lynn Cycle Club is their seasons first club 25 mile Time Trial which is to be held on Wednesday 11th June. This will offer many of their members the first chance to try their hand at the longer distance event and will no doubt prove to be another launch pad for the club to carry on going from strength to strength.
