News – The CDNW Surf & Turf 2 Day Stage race

Round of National Women’s Road Race Series – Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June 2014

An unusual name for a cycle road race you may think; however three years ago the first stages were held in Blackpool (surf) and the second day in the countryside (Turf).

2014 sees this event starting at the UCLANsports Arena, Tom Benson Way, Preston, with a prologue time trial of one lap (1.6km) and a 45 minute closed circuit race.

The Women’s field contains most of the famous names in British Women’s cycling including Dame Sarah Storey, Laura Trott, Katie Archibald, Series Leader, Nicola Juniper and up and coming Juniors, Amy Gornall, Grace Garner and Abby-Mae Parkinson.

Olympic medallists and World Champions will come to the start line in the Prologue Time Trial which is due at 10:00 on Saturday 14th June. Their event will be closely followed by a race over the same distance for Men.

In the afternoon, at 13:00, the Women will once again take to the track with a 45 minute circuit race, which promises some top attacking riding as the fastest try to put distance and time into their competitors before they face day 2 on the Road at the Bashall Eaves course near Clitheroe on Sunday.

Entry to the UCLANsports Arena is free of charge and it is rare that you get a chance to watch so many famous riders in the same race very close up.

The Whistle Stop Café will be open for refreshments and the good weather has been booked.
