Team News – Mike Cumming wins stage in Korea
The Tour of Korea is Cuming’s first stage race since returning from injury just three weeks ago, but as the defending champion, the 24 year-old was determined to perform in the 8-day race.

“I was a bit nervous coming into this race having missed so much racing, and after an OK start to the race I was having a tough time over the last two stages. I still didn’t feel too great once we got away today, but the group kept pushing on and with 5km to go, when we still had 40 seconds, I started to feel like I had a chance.â€
Cuming had broken clear with four riders after a very fast first hour in which the peloton had covered 49km. With a number of teams seemingly interested in catching the break, the last twenty kilometers of undulating roads had seen the group’s advantage drop rapidly, but the chase wasn’t enough to catch the five escapees.
“It was too close to start messing around so everyone rode hard until the last kilometre. One guy took a flyer with 800m to go, but he was brought back by the Drapac guy, and I ducked up the inside with about 400m to go and that was it.â€
“I wasn’t expecting this one today, but I am really happy to take our second stage win here. Moral in the team is high and we are hoping there is more to come.â€

While Cuming’s team mate Hugh Carthy remains third overall and in the white jersey of best young rider, Elliott Porter also held on to his KOM jersey, to make it a special day for the Men in Black, who put three different riders onto the podium.
The race continues tomorrow with a 177km stage from Yeongju to Pyeongchang.
