Phil returns PB at TT Championships
Special Inspector Phil Booth, swapped his police cap for a cycle helmet to represent Kent Police in the Emergency Services Time Trial Championship held in Cleveland at the weekend.
Phil, who works in Medway area as part of his police duties, was one of 56-riders competing for the title on Saturday, 14 June. Riders came from across the UK with the furthest travelled having come from Cornwall and the Isle of Skye.
The competitors were all fire-fighters and police officers and included a number of well-known time trial riders. Phil’s previous PB time for 10-mailes was 24:51 and he was keen to improve on this. The course, a flat dual carriageway drag strip course based on the A19, is known to be quick on the right day.
Phil, who usually rides for The Medway Velo Cycle Club, rode extremely well and shaved a huge chunk off his previous best time to complete in 24.08. After the event he said: ‘I found the busy A road a real contrast to the likes of Grain and Harrietsham and I didn’t give it enough gas on the outward run to the turn, but I still came home with a new PB.’
Provisional results showed the 10 mile event was won by Simon Beldon of West Yorkshire Police in 20:16.
Smith smashes the 23-minute-barrier
Medway Velo rider Steve Smith showed excellent form to take 6th place in a hotly contested San Fairy Ann CC 10-mile time trial held on the A20 Harrietsham on Saturday, 14 June.
Smith, who has been improving at each event this season, came home in 22.45 a 26.4mph average. Steve came 6th overall and was 2nd senior (non-veteran) rider.
The event was won by Peter Tadros of In-Gear Quickvit Trainsharp in 20.58.
KCA 100
