The Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix, part of the Mayor of London’s multi-award winning festival of cycling, will feature a new format for youths with inter-regional races for boys and girls on Saturday 9 August.

Each of the British regions has been invited to enter a team of girls and a team of boys for the event. The route is a fast, flat 1.3-mile loop around St James’s Park that starts and finishes on The Mall. The riders will race towards Buckingham Palace, through three tight turns onto Birdcage Walk followed by a 90-degree turn into Horse Guards. The final turn at the end of Horse Guards brings them back onto The Mall.

“This is an amazing route,” said double Olympic champion Laura Trott, winner of the Prudential RideLondon women’s Grand Prix last year. “It’s got The Mall, Buckingham Palace and fantastic crowds. Racing here is the chance of a lifetime and I hope as many teams as possible take the chance to experience it.”

The prize pool is £4,250 in total with prize money awarded to the top five teams and the top 10 individual finishers in each race. The first placed team will receive £500 and the first individual across the line will be awarded £300.

“One of the aims of the Prudential RideLondon weekend is to build on the legacy of London 2012 and inspire the next generation of Olympians,” said Event Director Hugh Brasher. “In this event, the riders in the youth races will watch the world’s top women race right before they race on the same circuit.”

The regions invited to enter teams are:
• Central
• Eastern
• East Midlands
• North East
• North West
• South East
• South West
• Scotland
• South
• West Midlands
• Wales
• Yorkshire

In addition, teams from Ulster and the Channel Islands will be invited along with a team of London-based riders. Regional team managers will enter teams and individual entries will not be accepted.
