Talented British young riders get a taste of life on the road at the Tour de France with “Tour de France Cadets-Juniors

Experiencing a unique day in the same conditions as a professional team and discovering what a stage of the Tour de France is really like is the opportunity that will again be open to the 168 young riders who will be lucky enough to take part in the “Tour de France Cadets-Juniors†operation ahead of the partners’ parade and the peloton.
For the twelfth year running, young riders from local clubs will be able to get a taste of the popular fervour for Le Tour and enjoy the applause received by the professional pack along the roads of the Tour de France. From 5th to 27th July the “cadets-juniors†operation will offer an exceptional opportunity to promote cycling by highlighting the sporting spirit and the pleasure of exercise.
From Yorkshire to Paris, four cadets (15-16 years old) and four juniors (17-18 years old) will participate in the big Tour de France party by riding the first and last thirty kilometres of each stage. Like the elite riders whose ranks they might later join, the Cadets-Juniors will have the honour of gracing the start podium, tasting the enthusiasm of the spectators massed along the road-sides and enjoying the exceptional conditions provided by a finish on Le Tour.
Whilst the last kilometre traditionally witnesses a battle between the strongest legs of the group for an inevitable sprint, there is no final classification and the eight brave riders will all climb onto the podium to receive their well-deserved medals to the sound of the official Tour de France anthem. On completion of a moment rich in sensations and thrills, after having met the local press, the Cadets-Juniors will be welcomed to the stands in which they will have some of the best seats to watch the finish of a Tour de France stage that they have already tamed.
Chosen from be best in their category and designated by local cycling clubs in collaboration with the stage-hosting towns/cities, the boys and girls invited to take part in the Cadets-Juniors operation help to boost the links between the Tour de France and the French Federation of Cycling’s clubs, as well as promoting cycling to other young people.
Just like their illustrious elders (like Arnaud Démare and Pierre Rolland who took part in the operation before), the participants in the 2014 Cadets-Juniors operation will be the only riders to ride every day on the roads of Le Tour. Since the Big Loop has no borders, the Cadets-Juniors will also take on English and Belgian accents (during the first three stages and on 9th July respectively) to honour their spectators and represent their clubs on their local roads.
