NOTE: Send your results as well as club, team & event news here
A clear blue sky and warm sunshine greeted the 244 competitors who turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round 14 of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league. The good weather resulted in close racing in most of the age groups.
The under 10 racing bike riders always put on an entertaining show and last week was no exception. A leading group of 14 riders broke away at the start , with Cian Jackson, Kiera Prentice and Mairi Harrison at the head of affairs. They stayed together to the finish where James Devereau came through to record his second win of the night and his maiden success in the very competitive “droppies†class. Nathan Slack was second closely followed by Cian Jackson, Cameron Dudley, Kiera Prentice and Mairi Harrison.
In the under 12 racing bikes James Harrison outsprinted ten fellow breakaway partners for the victory, taking the chequered flag a full bike length ahead of runner-up Jonty Bregazzi, who just managed to hold off Aaron Lund and Percy Hampton in the final rush for the line. Will Corkill and Jack Christian completed the top six, with Shellan Leeming the first girl home in 12th spot.
After lapping most of the field, nine frontrunners were in with a chance of winning the under 16’s race. In the end, however, it was Matthew Draper who proved to be the strongest in the final gallop. Nathan Hinks and Conor Davies were second and third respectively, while Thomas Bostock led William Draper in to take the under 14 honours in fourth place. Tara Ferguson was the top girl in 13th position.
Earlier in the evening Cameron Hounsell notched up his first victory in the born 2009 & later age group, taking the win with a comfortable advantage over Jarno Davidson in a safe second place. Callum Christian and Kylan Murphy came in separately for third and fourth, with Stanley Cubbon edging out leading girl Florrie Thomas for fifth. Stanley Kinnish outgunned Grace Wolstencroft, Dylan Bullock and Lewis Cannon in the sprint for seventh.
In the novices class Emily Rewsin continued her winning ways, powering away from the field for her seventh success. Tristan Speight was a solid second ahead of Carter Kneale, who beat Jacob Gibb, Max Messenger, Christopher Hazell and Dylan Honeyman in the rush for the final place on the podium. Edward Hampton, Herbie Hampton-France and Elijah Winning rounded off the top ten.
Alec Sorby passed Myles Le Geyt on the finishing straight to bag maximum points in the born 2008 category. Ollie Eyres was a distant third and T.J.Teare got the better of Fearne Bregazzi, Ryan Nelson, Oliver Cooper and Edward Field in the tussle for fourth. Ella Darnill led Leon Murphy and Thomas Kerruish in for ninth, while George Partington pipped relative newcomer Rhys Fallows in the scrap for 12th.
Making sure that his unbeaten record survived for another week, Cian Howard attacked from the gun and time trialled to his 14th straight win in the born 2007 race. Orry Lund clipped off the front of the main chasing pack to claim second and Archie Dunn kept Charlie Scarffe at bay in the fight for third. Cory Corkhill, Jordan Carter and Jemma Quayle trailed in on their own for fifth, sixth and seventh, with the fast finishing Ben Davies making up several places in the closing stages to secure eighth. First timer Lucas Brockbanks did well to finish 13th on his debut.
Ivan Sorby rode away from Owen Collins on the final lap to pick up his second successive victory in the born 2006 event. The impressive Nicola Quaye was too quick for Connor Moughtin, Harry Eyres and Tom Darnill in the sprint for third and Samuel Devereau got past Lucy Field and Corbin Stewart to snatch seventh. Tom Caine, another newcomer, was a good tenth.
After finishing runner-up on no fewer than nine occasions, Harry Kneen outsprinted Oliver Corkish and Tyler Annis to finally reach the top spot in the born 2005 class. Teddy Dunn and Mairi Harrison were fourth and fifth, with Alexander Deering seizing sixth ahead of James Scott.
In the born 2004 three lapper James Devereau scored the first of his brace of wins, leaving travelling companions Nathan Slack, Ben Boyle and Kiera Prentice in his wheel tracks to fight over the minor placings. Annabel Corkill held off Megan Boardman and Amy Quayle in the hotly contested gallop for fifth.
Finally, Percy Hampton got the verdict in the bunch gallop at the end of the born 2003 & earlier grouping. Joseph Corkish was second followed by Tyler Hannay, Jonty Bregazzi, Emma Draper, Corrin Leeming and Matthew Black
