From Velo29 the promoters of the Stockton Cycling Festival, we have a new event for the North East Calendar, Bishop Auckland Cycle Races. Racing on a brand new 840 metre circuit on the 6th August, it’s a full evening of youth, 3/4/L/J and E/1/2 races. There is also some festival fun with BMX display, local musicians, roller racing and local clubs and groups to entertain the non-racing members of the family!

Youth Races: 5.30pm
Amateur Race: 6.45pm
Professional Race: 8pm

The circuit is fast and not too technical. It’s a combination of 2 long straights, a fast dog leg, an open turn and one slow turn. Velo29’s Richard Williamson tells us “we’ve designed the circuit, like our Stockton GP race to be open, for as many riders to have a chance of getting a result as possible. It’s not a race where starting on the front row of the grid is essential, nor will half the field be lapped after 10 minutes”

With a prize list in-line with the Elite Crit Series it’s a chance to grab some series prize money as not all the big teams have signed up yet. Richard adds “the event has tremendous support of the Town and County Councils. We were onsite today for a photo shoot and the enthusiasm for the event is superb. Too often I hear riders complain there are no races in the summer, well here’s a top notch night of racing in a great location so riders get online and enter. These events need your support!”
