Graham Robins report & pics | Monday 28th July
The first on the track were the 3rd and 4th Cat riders for a 45mins +3lap race, the bunch were very attentive throughout the entire race with each and every attack being brought back quickly. It wasn’t until five minutes to go when Ian Donohue (Southern Planning Practice Ltd) made a big attack, got away a built a lead but he was eventually reeled back by the bunch.
Next up was the E/1/2 Race followed a few minutes later by the women. The women’s race stayed together for the entire 40mins and 3lap race with Ruby Chappell doing most of the work on the front for lap after lap, when she did attack the others chased, and when she slowed the rest slowed. So it was only right that Ruby won the sprint very easily getting the arms up with room to spare.
The feature race did see some action during their 45mins and 5lap race when after 15mins a small group of six slipped away and soon they had managed to build a small gap but their escape only lasted for nine minutes when the remainder of the bunch caught them.
The deciding move came on 36mins when Tavis Walker slipped away; he held a 13secs lead for about 7laps and the bunch very happy to allow him to stay there. Then he attacked, broke the elastic and built his lead, first he had 20secs lead then with the 5 laps to go his lead went to over a minute. At one point he must have seen the rest of the bunch at one end of the long straight as he was at the other end. At the bell his lead was 1mins 28secs, he then went on to solo to the line while we waited for the bunch sprint which was won by Justin Hoy (Felt Colbornes-Hargroves RT) just ahead of Ben Rowe (WyndyMilla Reynolds).
