The World’s only pop up track cycling championship and headlining in the finals will be Commonwealth Games double gold medallist Craig Maclean MBE in this unique pursuit racing challenge. The racing starts from 6pm.
The series has seen five regional events take place across the country including rounds in Ealing, at Harewood House as part of the Tour De France Grand Departe and in Paisley, Scotland celebrating the start of the Commonwealth Games.
During the series the four competing teams, made up of a combination of pro and amateur male and female riders, have been battling it out for top honours and the title of Series Champions. Coming into the Super Final the top of the table is finely balanced with London Cycling Campaign just marginally leading Team Mad Dog Energy Lemonade. But still in with a chance of victory is the CTC Cycle Chilterns team. All will be decided at Broadgate in front of crowds in this exciting city centre location.
The event runs from 9am with free track sessions for juniors and youth riders. Then qualifying for amateur riders runs from 11am till 3pm. The top male and top female riders will win wildcards to compete in the televised final. Its free to spectators and participants with bikes provided. That’s a unique aspect of StreetVelodrome, everyone has to use the same standard bike, so it all about the rider not the gear.
The Finals which start at 6pm will see the best amateur riders from the regional events plus the two Broadgate Wildcards competing for the Best Amateur Rider winner’s jersey. The pro riders will be competing for top honours too and the race results will influence the overall medal table and will determine the overall series winning team.
The event is to be filmed for Channel 4 with later broadcasts on British Eurosport and Sky Sports as well as channels in over 180 countries worldwide. It’s a really exciting and unique event which is guaranteed to provide some fantastic close racing and a few spills and thrills on the way.
