From Fergus Muir – George Georgallides (Finchley Racing Team) won the 50 mile Strada Sport Road Race after overhauling late breakaway companion Luke Moseley (Climb on Bikes) at the foot of the finish hill. The race was held over ten laps of the scenic Shotesham circuit just south of Norwich in sunny, warm, but not over-hot conditions.
After the 2pm start riders were soon being dropped from the back of the bunch, but there was no sustained break from the front until about half-distance when Matthew Carter (VeloSchils) forged ahead on his own. His lead was never more than 30 seconds, but with effective blocking from Veloschils teammates he stayed clear for over half an hour until Mark Farrow (Strada Sport) chased and the field briefly came together. After a Cambridge CC/Strada attack failed , it was Geogallides and Moseley who established a small lead which withstood a late attack from VC Norwich veteran Phil Hargreaves. Moseley went for a long one but it was Georgallides who prevailed on the final climb of Skeets Hill to the finish line where he had four seconds in hand over Moseley and a further five over third-placed Ben Locke from VC Braintree.
Georgallides (25) is from Golders Green in NW London and only started racing in June 2013 while Moseley is now from Hereford and was in Norfolk, originally his home county, for a family camping holiday.
