A disappointingly low number of riders, just over 40, signed on for the latest MK Bowl series, incorporating the Region 7 Criterium Championships. The weather was cool and windy and being the championship the race was run on the large circuit throughout.
In the E/F/G race, a few of the riders were still feeling the affects of the weekends gruelling National Championships, after a few skirmishes they stayed together where Ralph Keeler easily won the bunch sprint. Another mention for Clare Simon, who stayed with the bunch till the end,and was rewarded with a Bronze medal.
A break of 5 formed early on in the C/D race, working well they soon opened a large gap. The pace was too high for Geoff Baines who dropped back but still held off the bunch. Mark Booth tried repeatedly to escape in the last few laps but his companions were having none of it and Paul Caton dominated the sprint for a fine win.
A similar pattern in the A/B race where four riders got away early. New veteran Mike Jackson drove the break who were soon reduced to a trio. The bunch were lapped by the relentless efforts of Mike, Simon Cannings and Nick Corbett. A very close finish saw Mike just edge out Simon for the win.
There will be the Medal Presentation before the last race of the series next week. We are planning to have a Handicap race on the large circuit. Any help would be appreciated.
