This autumn the track cycling season will spin back in to action with the start of the Revolution Series. Round 1 is taking place on 24â€25 October at the scene of British Cycling’s 2012 victories; the prestigious Lee Valley VeloPark in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Laura Trott and Marianne Vos are the latest cycling stars to confirm their places at Revolution’s first event of the Series. Olympic and Commonwealth gold medallist Trott will be aiming to repeat her 2013 clean sweep of race wins, fighting it out against World and Olympic Road Race Champion Vos.
Ticket sales for the event are already soaring thanks to the continual surge of interest in track cycling, which looks likely to increase with spectators keen to see two of the world’s best battle it out in London, at the inaugural race of the expanded sixâ€round Series.
Vos said, “Having competed in at the Revolution Series in Manchester a couple of years ago I know firstâ€hand how electrifying the racing is, and coming back to London to compete in the Olympic Velodrome against the best British riders is an exciting challenge. I’ve had a strong set of results on the road over the summer, so I’m looking to repeat that as we get onto the track.â€
Trott commented, “The atmosphere and support from the fans at each Revolution event is always unbelievable, especially when we are back in the Lee Valley VeloPark. Add the UCI points into the mix and there is a lot to cycle for in this year’s Series.â€
Managing Director of FACE Partnership and promoter of Revolution Series, James Pope, added “The Revolution Series is all about giving the UK a chance to see the world’s best cyclists competing – to have the world’s best track rider line up against the world’s best road rider on the track is a scintillating prospect. Laura dominated the Omnium at the final round of last season winning all six races so to line her up against Marianne will be the ultimate test. There will be many more announcements to come over the coming weeks ensuring the start line in London will be the strongest we’ve ever seen.â€
Following the opening races at the Lee Valley VeloPark in London, the event travels to Manchester and Glasgow, before coming back to London ahead of the final round in Manchester on the 14th March 2014.
